Ocean Vodka was founded in 2004 by Maui-born Shay Smith, who came upon an article about Hawaiian desalinated deep ocean mineral water. He brought the idea of using it to create vodka to his family. As the entrepreneurial spirit runs in their veins, they instantly took to the idea and Ocean Organic Vodka was born right there in Hawaii, where nature constantly reminds them of its beauty, majesty, and fragility.From farming and distilling to sales and marketing, the company is an (extended) family affair. They grow over 30 variants of Polynesian sugar cane organically and use desalinated deep ocean mineral water that is drawn from a depth of 3,000 feet and is rich in minerals, having been carried on deep ocean currents from the Greenland glacier. The clear vodka owes its subtle complexity to those minerals. Its crafted using a continuous column process under the watchful eye of Master Distiller Bill Scott, with 25 years of experience in distilling and several awards for his organic creations under his belt. They take pride in using quality, organic, non-GMO ingredients, as well as no synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. The facility uses solar power as well, minimizing the imprint on the environment while capturing the spirit of the Hawaiian paradise.
