Rock Town Bottled In Bond Bourbon Whiskey
When Rock Town Distillery was founded in 2010 by Phil Brandon, it became the first legal distillery of any kind in Arkansas since Prohibition. Rock Town, located in downtown Little Rock, is a true grain-to-glass distillery, making its craft spirits from corn, wheat and rye that are grown within a 125-mile radius of the distillery. The first spirits distilled at Rock Town were vodka, gin, and unaged Arkansas Lightning whiskey, touted as legal moonshine. They later added liqueurs and bottled cocktails to their range, and of course whiskey. Their line of Arkansas-made whiskeys comprises bourbons and ryes, as well as a hickory smoked whiskey, and they also created a number of anniversary editions. To get the bottled-in-bond label, a whiskey must be produced according to strict federal regulations, originally laid out in the Bottled-In-Bond act of 1897 that was adopted with the aim of eliminating the widespread adulteration of whiskey. These standards prescribe that a whiskey must be produced in one distillation season, by one distiller at one distillery, aged for least 4 years in a federally bonded warehouse, and bottled at 100 proof. In 1898, Teddy Roosevelt a Long Island native organized the First United States Volunteer Cavalry, commonly known as the "Rough Riders,"in preparation for the Spanish-American War. The regiment comprised 1,250 volunteers from across the country, including cowboys, Native Americans and other pioneers of the West.After seeing action in Cuba, the Rough Riders earned a decisive victory at the Battle of San Juan Hill before returning to Long Island. RoughStock Montana Pure Malt Whiskey
Nestled in the foothills of the Bridger Mountain Range in southwestern Montana, RoughStock Distillery is the first distillery in Montana since Prohibition, and the first distillery to make whiskey in Montana in over a century. The distillery is the brainchild of Bryan Schultz, RoughStocks owner and master distiller. After serving overseas in the armed forces, Schultz moved back to his native Montana in order to open the distillery. "We mortgaged everything we had," says Schultz, "we sold all of our stuff and we maxed out our credit cards, because we knew that the words "Montana and "Whiskey fit really well together."RoughStock Montana Whiskey is made exclusively from barley grown and harvested in Montana. "We grow some world class grains here,"Schultz adds. After the barley has been harvested, it is malted in Montana by a company that has been practicing the art of malting barley for over a century. The malted barley is milled and mashed back at RoughStock, before being fermented in an open-top fermentation tank composed of old growth Oregon fir. Soon after the end of the American Revolutionary War, John Rowans parents moved from Pennsylvania to the western frontier in Kentucky County. Russells Reserve 10 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
At the end of the American Civil War, the Ripy Brothers returned to their native state of Kentucky and opened a distillery on the slopes of a hill in Lawrenceburg. Following the repeal of Prohibition, distillery executive Thomas McCarthy took some samples of maturing bourbon from the distillerys rickhouse on a hunting trip with a group of friends. In 1838, a Creole immigrant named Antoine Peychaud opened the doors to a pharmacy on Royal Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans. While Peychaud was an apothecary by trade, he was also a natural mixologist.
